Tennis Saskatchewan will be hosting a “trial / pilot” ITF (International Tennis Federation) World Tennis Number (WTN) tournament for the first time from March 28 – 30, 2025 at the Regina Sportplex.

Tournament Information 

  • This tournament is sanctioned by Tennis Saskatchewan.
  • Players will not accumulate National Bank ranking points during this tournament.
  • This tournament is open to adult players only (not open to junior aged players).  Players will be placed into divisions based on their WTN rating.  Males and females will play together based on WTN ratings.
  • Most players will already have a WTN number.  If a player does not have a WTN number, please go to the Overview link above.  If players currently play in sanctioned tournaments (without a WTN number), Tennis Saskatchewan (Tournament Committee) will assign subjective rating points (a number/division until a player establishes a WTN number determined by other tournament / league play results).
  • Entry Fee: $50.00 first event, $30.00 second event
  • Players will be eligible to enter one singles event and one doubles event.  When entering on-line, players will enter singles and/or doubles only.
  • Entry Deadline:  Friday, March 21 – 11:59 p.m.  Late entries may be accepted provided the draw has not been completed.  Late entries that are accepted will be subject to a $20.00 late registration fee.
  • Players who withdraw from the tournament before the entry deadline will receive a refund of 50% of their entry fees.  
  • Players who withdraw from the tournament after the entry deadline will be defaulted from the tournament and will not receive a refund of their entry fees.
  • Players, Officials, Spectators, etc. must abide by the restrictions / protocols of the Host Club / Facility and the Tournament Committee.
  • Matches will be best of three sets with the 3rd set being a 10 point deciding match tie-break.  The Tournament Director reserves the right to revert to an alternate method of scoring for both main draw and consolation draw matches.
  • Draw times will be available on-line or by phone at 306-780-9410 on Tuesday, March 25 – after 6:00 p.m.
  • Players are responsible for confirming their own draw times.
  • Play will begin Friday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m.  All players must be available to play Friday evening.
  • The tournament will be limited to thirty-two (32) singles players and twenty-four (24) doubles teams.  Players will be accepted into the tournament based on their on-line registration date and time.  Players / teams not getting accepted into the tournament will be placed on a reserve list (singles and doubles).
  • Tournament Format will be based on number of participants.  Examples are as follows:

Singles Example (preferred format for this tournament)

Thirty-two (32) players register in singles.  Players will be divided into four (4) divisions of eight (8) players.  Players rated 1 – 8 will play in the 1st division, players rated 9 – 16 will play in the 2nd division, players rated 17 – 24 will play in the 3rd division, and players rated 25 – 32 will play in the 4th division.  Each player will play in an eight (8) player compass draw.  Each player would play three (3) matches.

Additional Examples

Sixteen (16) players register in singles.  Players will be divided into four (4) divisions of four (4) players.  Each division will play a round robin and play against those in their own division.  Each player would play three (3) matches.

Eight (8) doubles teams.  Players / teams will be placed in two (2) divisions based on their combined rating (add the WTN of both players on doubles team).  Teams rated 1 – 4 will play in a round-robin division and teams rated 5 – 8 will play in a second round-robin division.  Each team would play three (3) matches.

  • Matches will be played on a “to-follow basis”.
  • The 15-minute default and 5-minute warm-up rules will be enforced.
  • Tennis Canada disciplinary procedures will be enforced.  The rule book “Rules of the Court” sets out the rules, regulations, and format to be followed in Sanctioned Tournaments.  All Sanctioned Tournaments will be carried out according to these regulations.
  • Wilson U.S. Open XD tennis balls will be used.
  • Proper tennis attire is required during matches.
