Continuing with his impressive results at the national stage, Regina’s Keegan Rice has taken home the doubles title at the 2018 Outdoor Under 12 Rogers Junior Nationals. Partnering with Kai Baerg from Alberta, Keegan entered the draw unseeded and upset the top three seeds on the way to the title.
After winning their first two rounds against fellow unseeded opponents from Nova Scotia and Ontario, Keegan and Kai faced the number two seeds from British Columbia in the quarterfinals and were victorious in a super tiebreak after going a set down 2-6, 7-5, 13-11. In the semifinals, the boys faced off against the third-seeded duo from Quebec and came through in straight sets. To close out the tournament, Keegan and Kai faced the number one seeds Denny Bao and Danny Yassine from British Columbia. In another match decided by a super tiebreak, the prairie boys took the title 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.
In singles play, Keegan also had a strong showing playing off for qualification to the Championship Flight. After losing a tough match there, he rallied back to make the final of Flight #1. To see a full list of results from this event, check out its Tennis Canada Tournament Profile.
